Police Chief Todd Costa and Fire Chief Jamison Barros would like to invite community members to attend the departments’ upcoming charity softball game between police officers and firefighters.
Sunday, Oct. 2 beginning at noon
The event will be held rain or shine.
O’Neil Field, 615 Brayton Point Road
All are welcome to attend the Battle of the Badges softball game to enjoy some friendly competition between the departments. At the charity softball game, food vendors, t-shirt sales, contests, and more will be available for all to enjoy.
Vendors include County Fair Hot Dogs and D + M Goods ice cream truck. Frank Baptista will be the DJ and a dunk tank will also be present. Attendees can purchase raffle tickets to have the chance to dunk a member of the Somerset Police or Fire Departments.
Admittance to the event will be one non-perishable good per person. Non-perishable goods will be donated to the local food pantry.
Ahead of National Faith and Blue Weekend, which runs from Oct. 7-10, the Somerset Police Department is teaming up with local houses of worship to collect additional non-perishable goods. Donations can be dropped off at participating local churches/houses of worship. Non-perishable goods will be accepted at these locations until Oct. 3.
“We are excited for some friendly competition against our fellow first responders and seeing all the community members that come out in support of this event,” Chief Costa said. “In addition to our admittance fee of a non-perishable good, we have also teamed up with our local churches to collect food donations to be given to local food pantries. We encourage those who can to donate now until Oct. 3 and thank everyone for their generosity.”
Added Chief Barros, “The upcoming Battle of the Badges softball game will allow our two departments to compete against each other for bragging rights while simultaneously supporting a great cause. We hope to have a great turnout.”
