IMPORTANT

IF YOU APPLY USING THE STATE'S ONLINE SYSTEM, YOU MUST STILL USE THE APPOINTMENT BOOKING SYSTEM THROUGH OUR PD.  OTHERWISE WE DO NOT SEE YOUR APPLICATION NOR RECEIVE YOUR LICENSE FEE.

Firearms licensing Division

Massachusetts LTC/FID Application Instructions

*** IMPORTANT CHANGES***

Due to the increased number of applicants not appearing for their appointments, we must implement a pre-pay system for licensing fees.
Beginning 05/20/2024, you must pay for your appointment using the booking website (preferred) or you may pay using a personal check in the amount of $100.
To utilize online booking, you will be charged the $100 State licensing fee, along with a $4.00 booking fee payable with a credit card.
If you choose to pay by check,  please call our business line and choose the 'Firearms' option to request an appointment PRIOR to dropping off your check.  You will receive a call back with further instructions.
All fees are non-refundable and forfeited in the case of a "no-show".  Rescheduling is allowed within 24 hours.  These changes were necessary to reduce wasted appointment times and better serve those who are waiting for appointments.

If you are 70-years-old or older, your fees are waived for renewals only.  In this case, please phone the police department and choose the 'Firearms' option to leave a message for the clerk to return your call.

Instructions:

  • Download the LTC/FID application/renewal form HERE. Fill out your application completely, and truthfully.
  • Complete your application clearly and neatly, and provide your current telephone number.
  • When selecting a license type, only select one type.
  • Provide two references as requested.

Book your appointment online using the booking tab in blue on this page and bring the following to your appointment:

  • A copy of your current Massachusetts Basic Firearms Safety Certificate (new applicants only, not renewals)
  • If you are not a US citizen, a copy of your proof of citizenship or Certificate of Naturalization.
  • Proof of Residency. (Massachusetts Driver’s license, I.D. or School I.D.)
